Kanu's Enyimba avoided defeat at home in the decisive CAFCC clash against visitors Al Masry SC.

Nigeria's Enyimba FC, led by Super Eagles legend Nwankwo Kanu, faced Al Masry SC at their home ground in Aba but failed to impress in a crucial CAFCC clash on Sunday.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, a result that left Enyimba with a challenging path ahead of the final game of the group stage.

The People’s Elephant began the game with high hopes after a recent victory against Mozambique's Black Bulls, which had reignited their CAFCC aspirations.

However, just eight minutes into the match, they were stunned when Al Masry took an early lead. Enyimba struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, trailing 1-0 at halftime.

New Enyimba coach Stanley Eguma revived their hope against the Bulls.

The second half saw a determined response from Enyimba as they sought to salvage their campaign. Ifeanyi Ihemekwele emerged as the hero of the evening, scoring a decisive equaliser shortly after the break.

This goal not only lifted the spirits of the home crowd but also allowed Enyimba to avoid defeat at their adopted home ground.

Enyimba failed to make it back-to-back wins at home.

Despite the draw, Enyimba managed to climb out of the bottom spot in their group and into third place, now just one point behind second-placed Al Masry.

However, their situation remains precarious as they head into their final group stage match against Zamalek, who have already qualified for the next round as leaders.

Al Masry took four points from the Elephants

To keep their hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals alive, Enyimba must secure a victory against Zamalek and hope the game between Al Masry and Black Bulls ends in their favour.

Kanu's side faces an uphill battle as they prepare for this decisive encounter, knowing that anything less than a win will likely end their CAFCC aspirations for this season.
