RELEGATION DOGFIGHT Can Busoga, Black Power and Onduparaka continue with the struggle

Onduparaka witnessed a meteoric rise to the local football scene from when they were formed in 2011 to earning promotion to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League in the 2015/16 season.

The team has seen it all, from going unbeaten at home in their first season, a Uganda Cup final appearance, to flirting with relegation last year.

They’ve survived it all but luggage seems too heavy this season.

Relegation

From the 15 teams that were passed fit for this season, FUFA and the Uganda Premier League made it clear that two will be flushed down.

The Caterpillars under their motto ‘The Struggle Continues’ currently sit at the bottom of the log with only 16 points with three games to play.

Blacks Power, the other side in red, has 20 points with a game at hand while UPDF and Busoga United have 26 and 24, respectively. Gaddafi in 11th has 30 points.

That leaves the battle for the chop for the four. Onduparaka face Maroons on Tuesday, then host Blacks Power before travelling to UPDF.

Survival for them is a herculean task that needs them to keep a 100-percent record and pray the rest to falter.

Besides Onduparaka, Blacks Power has Gaddafi on Tuesday and then SC Villa and Express to deal with.

Busoga United travel to Arua Hill on Tuesday and then complete their assignments against title-contenders KCCA and Vipers at home and away, respectively.

UPDF need at least five points from SC Villa, Gaddafi and Onduparaka assuming Blacks Power win all their games.
