Serie A match week 20 features 10 exciting fixtures but none more mouthwatering than the game between Napoli and Roma.
The latest round of matches in Serie A officially signals the start of the second half of the season as all 20 teams once again go toe to toe in 10 games match week 20.
Napoli v Roma on Sunday night is the game to watch in Italy this weekend as the table-toppers have an opportunity to extend their 12-point lead with a positive result against a dogged Roma team.
Napoli v Roma
Napoli are by far the best team in Serie A this season with 12 points separating them from reigning champions AC Milan in second place.
The champions-elect have only dropped seven points all season and two of those have been on home soil where this game will happen on Sunday the 29th.
Only Lecce have managed to escape the Diego Armando Maradona stadium with a point thanks to a 1-1 draw back in August, Napoli’s home record currently stands at eight wins and a draw.
But that record may be under threat this weekend as Jose Mourinho’s Roma pull up in town with the third-best away record in Serie A.
The Giallorossi have won more points on the road (21) than they have at home (16) this season and have the potential to end Napoli’s three-game winning streak in the league.
The main ingredient in Napoli’s run is Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian striker who has scored in all of those three consecutive wins with four goals in that period.
Roma have firsthand knowledge of the Serie A top scorer’s potency as he scored the only goal to decide the reverse fixture in Napoli’s favour at the Stadio Olimpico back in October 2022.
Mourinho’s men could use a positive result in their quest to crack the top four as they are currently fifth but only on goal difference as they are tied on 37 points with Inter Milan in fourth and Lazio in third, only a point behind second-placed AC Milan.
So even though this game has little effect on the title race because Napoli are just so far ahead, it could be crucial in determining who plays Champions League football next season.
Friday football in Serie A
Serie A match week 20 action kicks off on Friday with two games as 12th-placed Bologna host 15th-placed Spezia while Lecce and Salernitana do battle in a bid to steer clear of the relegation waters.
Saturday in Serie A
Saturday action in Serie A kicks off with a mid-table clash between Empoli and Torino in a game that could see Super Eagles defender Ola Aina make his return from a three-month injury layoff.
Bottom dwellers Cremonese have the task of trying to win in Serie A for the first time this season on the 20th attempt but fourth-placed Inter Milan are overwhelming favourites.
Atalanta host Sampdoria in the last game of Saturday, and the home side are favourites as they have high-flying Ademola Lookman to rely on, the Nigerian who has scored a brace in each of his last three games.
Serie A on Sunday
Sunday opens with an early kickoff between defending champions AC Milan and Sassuolo after which Juventus welcomes Monza to the Allianz Stadium in Turin for the afternoon game.
Lazio and Fiorentina take the Serie A evening belt at the Stadio Olimpico and the aforementioned Napoli v Roma is the headliner in prime time as the late kickoff.
Monday night football
Udinese play hosts to Hellas Verona at the Dacia Arena in the final match of match week 20 as the home team continues their search for a European spot while the visitors simply aim to avoid relegation from Serie A this season.
