Ex-coach of Zambia and two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner is reportedly demanding a salary of $125,000 monthly from the NFF.

Former Super Eagles star Julius Aghahowa has questioned the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on the choice of Herve Renard as Super Eagles coach.

The experienced French coach has reportedly demanded a monthly salary of $125,000 from the NFF and this has raised concerns from stakeholder like Julius Aghahowa.

Renard, known for his success with Zambia and Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations, is seen as a potential candidate.

However, Aghahowa, in an interview with Brila FM, raised concerns about the financial implications of hiring Renard.

“The coach (Herve Renard) is an excellent coach, he has experience; when it comes to African football and even world football, we have to be realistic. Can we afford him with the price tag?” Aghahowa said.

He added, “Even when the former coach was handling the team and he was earning about $50,000 to 70,000, it was difficult for us to pay him. We were owing him for months, and now we are talking about almost double of that amount, where are we going to get the money from?”

Instead of pursuing expensive foreign options, Aghahowa advocated that the country's football federation should invest in local coaches.

“We might not pay them as much as the foreign coaches, but pay them well, give them enough time to build the team, and I have confidence in our local coaches,” he concluded.

The Super Eagles will play against the Benin Republic in the AFCON Qualifiers at the Nest of Champions in Uyo next month.
