The Portuguese will be no stranger to his incoming boss, as Thomas Tuchel was Chelsea's manager in the Premier League—where Cancelo outfitted for Manchester City—for 99 games.
Other than their regular encounters in the league, Manchester City and Chelsea played an all-English Champions League final in the 2020/21 season, in which Chelsea and Tuchel were victorious and Joao Cancelo's Manchester City were the vanquished.
Cancelo reminisced on the loss but hoped that Tuchel—who is a two-time finalist of the competition and has won it once—will help him win his first Champions League title.
Bayern Munich will face Cancelo's parent club, Manchester City, in the Champions League quarter-finals, and could face Tuchel's former club Chelsea or Real Madrid in the semi-finals.
