Cape Verde booked a place in the quarter-finals after defeating Mauritania in their round of 16 clash.
The Blue Sharks came out top of their group with seven points and were paired with Mauritania who qualified as one of the best losers.
Cape Verde were able to get past the Lions of Chinguetti with a narrow 1-0 victory to seal a quarter-final place.

The only goal of the game which was scored by Ryan Mendes came from the penalty spot after the Mauritania goalkeeper committed a foul in the box.

Cape Verde head coach Leitao Brito continued with his impressive 4-3-3 formation, with Bebe leading the attack.
Abdou A. Mauritania's head coach went for a 4-5-1 defensive formation, with just a lone striker Anne in attack.
The first half started with Cape Verde dominating all the possessions and creating the most chances in the game.
However, despite their effort in front of the goal, they were not able to put the ball past the Mauritania goalkeeper with the first half ending in a 0-0.
Both teams came in for the second half and tried to get the first goal of the game but failed after several attempts.
It was not until the 88th minute that Cape Verde got the chance to score the opening goal when a Mauritania defender headed a bad ball back to the goalkeeper.
The goalkeeper Babacar Niasse went for the ball but could only foul the attacking Cape Verde player leaving the referee no choice but to point to the penalty spot.
Ryan Mendes stood in front of the ball and put the ball into the middle of the goal past the outstretched arm of Babacar Niasse.
Mauritania tried to get themselves back into the game in the last 10 minutes but could not create any chance as the referee blew the final whistle.
The win takes Cape Verde to the quarter-final to face either Ivory Coast, the host country or Senegal.
