Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti finds himself embroiled in legal trouble as his team prepares for a crucial Champions League quarter-final clash against Arsenal while also fighting for the La Liga title.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Spanish prosecutors accused Ancelotti of defrauding the Treasury of over €1 million by failing to declare earnings from image rights during his first spell at the club in 2014 and 2015.
They are now seeking a severe penalty of four years and nine months in prison as punishment for this offence.
The Prosecutor’s Office claims Ancelotti defrauded the Spanish public treasury of €386,361 in 2014 and €675,718 in 2015, amounting to a total of €1,062,079. Taking his outstanding debt to €1,217,958.24 due to surcharges and interest after authorities seized the amount.
Prosecutors allege the Italian coach transferred his image rights to other entities in what they describe as a “fictitious move” to avoid taxation. Ancelotti previously appeared before Madrid’s 35th investigating court in 2021, where he admitted to tax irregularities in 2014.

Despite the serious allegations, Ancelotti remained composed when addressing the matter at his pre-match press conference on Friday.
"This is not the place really to talk about it," he stated. "I have confidence in the legal and justice system, so I am not worried. Of course, it upsets me a little that they believe I have committed fraud, but I will go and testify hoping to convince them otherwise."
For now, Ancelotti’s focus remains on leading Real Madrid in the La Liga clash with Leganes on Saturday.
They also have an upcoming quarterfinal clash against Arsenal in the UCL and will be hoping to avoid these distractions.
