CATS Ladies from Lagos State emerged champions of the first-ever Girls Play Sports Football Tournament, defeating Plateau United Queens 2-1 in the final match held at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja.
The tournament, initiated by the Ayomidiran Foundation, is aimed at promoting women's football and empowering young girls through sports.
A brace from Ebube Anyanwu was all CATS Ladies required to secure the victory; Agnes Otata's goal for Plateau United Queens was not enough to change things.

The champions received a cash prize of two million naira, while the runners-up were awarded one million naira.
Other finalists from the Northern and Southern zones were also rewarded for their participation.

Plateau United Queens and Moje Queens clash in Northern Conference final of Girls Play tournament
The winner of the Northern Conference final will face CATS Ladies, the Southern Conference champions, in the national final.
Honourable Ayo Omidiran, founder of the Ayomidiran Foundation, expressed her gratitude for the support received from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the Federal Housing Authority, State Football Associations, and participating teams.
She emphasised the importance of collaboration in promoting women's football and empowering young girls.
“This success reflects the power of collaboration and our shared commitment to advancing grassroots women's football and empowering the girl-child through sports," she said.
Chinasa Ukandu, head coach of CATS Ladies, celebrated the team's victory as a significant achievement. She commended the players for their determination and hard work.
Oyetunde Ojo, Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority, praised the tournament's organisation and expressed pride in being part of an initiative that empowers young girls through sports.

Mary Onyali, a Nigerian Olympic legend and Girls Play Sports ambassador, lauded the initiative for providing a platform for young female athletes to excel.
Several dignitaries, including Comptroller O. A. Adebakin, Senator Adebayo Adeyeye, Honorable Gbenga Elegbeleye, Ruth David, Modupe Shabi, Rukayat Alaya, Ikenna Okonkwo, and Senator Gbenga Obadara, were present at the tournament.
