And Byekwaso has detailed the plan he used to deal with one of the tournament's favourites.

Uganda needed an extra-time sucker punch from youngster Hakim Mutebi to beat Kenya to the CECAFA U18 championship at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium, Kisumu, on Friday.

Morley Byekwaso's charges needed Mutebi and Batiibwe Okello's goals to come from a goal down to dispatch off their neighbours 2-1 on the latter's home turf.

And Byekwaso has detailed the plan he used to deal with one of the tournament's favourites.

"It wasn't an easy game because Kenya is a very, very good side and we knew it would be like this," Byekwaso said following the glory.

"But we worked very hard after seeing their semi-final (against Tanzania," added the SC Villa assistant head coach.

"We've been analysing the videos and saw that they had strengths somewhere, and we had that program in training."

"We had to make sure that they won't be the kings of the midfield like they've been, so eventually it worked for us; they got frustrated in that area, and the game came back to our hands," Byekwaso summed.

While Uganda smiled to the title with Kenya as runners-up, Tanzania clinched bronze while Rwanda came fourth.

Meanwhile, Byekwaso continues to stamp his name as one the best at under-age football in the country, as he also previously guided the Uganda U20 team to the AFCON final in 2020, before losing out to Ghana.
