CAF confirms 18-Nations for CHAN

The African Nations Championship (CHAN) has finalised its 18-nation participant list. Notably, Morocco stands as the only North African team after withdrawals from Tunisia and Libya, who had initially received automatic qualification alongside them.

The qualification process delivered several surprises. The Central African Republic (CAR) achieved a historic first-ever CHAN qualification by defeating Cameroon 2-1 on aggregate, progressing via the away goals rule after a dramatic encounter in Bafoussam.

Mauritania also secured an unexpected spot by overcoming Mali.

Defending champions Senegal confirmed their presence with a dominant 3-0 victory over Liberia and will aim to defend their title won against Algeria in 2023.

Despite the withdrawals from Tunisia and Libya, the host nations (Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda) received automatic qualification.

Sudan also successfully qualified, overcoming domestic challenges to defeat Ethiopia 4-1 on aggregate.

The final lineup includes regional powerhouses such as Nigeria and DR Congo, as well as Burkina Faso, Guinea, Rwanda, Zambia, Angola, and Madagascar.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has yet to announce the date when the draws for the group stage will take place.
