Christopher Nkunku returns to training for the first time since his injury in November.
Christoper Nkunku, who is set to join Chelsea in the summer, has returned to training following an injury that ruled him out of the World Cup and could be fit in time for Leipzig's clash against Manchester City.
Nkunku back in training
Nkunku tore his knee ligament prior to the World Cup and has since been ruled out of action.
GGFN reports that Nkunku returned to training on Tuesday for the first time since the injury, and a positive progression in his recovery could see him available for Leipzig in the Champions League.
Nkunku is said to have had a checkup on his knee a week before resuming training in front of 400 Lepzig fans in an open training session. Nkunku is still training individually, but his training load is expected to increase over the next two weeks while he is cautiously reintegrated into group training.
If the France international manages to avoid a relapse or setbacks in his recovery, his availability would be right on schedule for Leipzig's UCL clash against Manchester City on February 22 and could even be included in the matchday squad as early as February 18 in the Bundesliga clash against Wolfsburg.
Nkunku was in red-hot form before his injury and has already scored 17 goals in 23 games. With Leipzig trailing league leaders Bayern Munich by only four points, Nkunku's return increases Leipzig's chances of contending with Bayern for the title.
