‘For his family, I hope he is innocent’ - Mikel Obi weighs in on Mudryk's failed drug test
Super Eagles legend Mikel Obi has weighed in on Mykhailo Mudryk's situation following his failed drug test last month.
He noted that Newcastle could have easily scored three goals within the first 20 minutes, stating, “Even if you’re not a Man United fan, it’s awful to watch.”
However, Obi's comments have sparked a backlash from Blues supporters, who have urged him to hold back on the criticism.
Several fans took to the comment section of the video posted on Obi’s social media platform to express their views, emphasising their mixed feelings about his comments.
One fan stated, "We love them like that!" while another pointed out that Obi's criticism of Nicolas Jackson seemed to correlate with the striker finally finding his scoring touch: “It’s funny how he criticised Jackson until the guy started scoring!”
Others voiced their concerns, cautioning Obi against provoking a resurgence in United’s performance in the manner he did Jackson.
“Please don’t call them out before they pick form with vex; they’re good like that,” remarked a concerned fan.
Another added his voice, “That doesn’t concern you, Obi—we like them just the way they are! Maybe you should focus on criticising Disasi instead; he needs some work.”
As one passionate Chelsea supporter put it, “As a Chelsea fan, we absolutely love them like that. @mikel_john_obi, please leave the Red Devils alone—we really enjoy watching them struggle!”
It’s clear that for many Chelsea fans, keeping the pressure on United is a priority, even if it means asking Obi to tone down his critiques.
