Victor Osimhen could still be headed for Stamford Bridge before the end of the season
Chelsea could be back in the race for Victor Osimhen in the upcoming January transfer window, following comments made by Napoli director Mauro Meluso.
The Nigerian striker, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has sparked fresh speculation about his future, with Napoli leaving the door open for a potential permanent move.
Osimhen still up for grabs
Meluso recently revealed that Osimhen’s departure from Napoli could still happen, despite his current loan deal with Galatasaray.
The striker was keen to leave the Serie A club in the summer, attracting interest from several big names, including Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli. However, a move did not materialise, and he ended up joining Galatasaray on loan.
Meluso explained that Osimhen had received offers even before he arrived at Napoli, but chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis rejected them to keep the team competitive.
Now, with the January window approaching, Napoli seems more open to the idea of a permanent transfer. "We will see in January," Meluso hinted, suggesting that Osimhen could move on if the right offer comes in.
Chelsea's long-standing interest
The Blues’ interest in Osimhen is no secret as they were reportedly keen to sign the striker during the summer, but his hefty release clause, set at over £100 million, proved to be a major obstacle in the negotiations.
Despite this, Chelsea’s need for a clinical striker remains, and with Osimhen’s future at Napoli still uncertain, they could reignite their pursuit in January.
Osimhen, who has scored two goals and provided three assists in four appearances for Galatasaray this season, is currently sidelined with an injury but is expected to return after the international break.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has relied on Nicolas Jackson so far this season, with the 23-year-old scoring four goals and providing three assists in eight matches, however, the prospect of adding a proven goalscorer like Osimhen to their squad could be tempting for the Blues as they look to strengthen their attack for the second half of the season.
