Chelsea striker Armando Broja has had a successful operation on Wednesday after suffering an ACL injury during Chelsea’s friendly against Aston Villa last week.

Armando Broja, 21, was taken off the field on a stretcher during the mid-season friendly match against Aston Villa in Abu Dhabi last week. Chelsea subsequently announced the striker would miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury.

Broja's statement

Broja said on his Instagram: “Pleased to say I underwent a successful operation this morning.“Time to rest up before starting my road to recovery.

“Thank you once again to everyone who has sent messages of support.”

Chelsea lack depth in attack

Chelsea are already light on numbers in attack and this leaves the club with only Kai Havertz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as senior options in that role. The lack of goals in the Chelsea attack has seen manager, Graham Potter tweak his system to look for answers.

Broja offered Potter another offensive option, either off the bench or from the start. He has made 18 appearances for Chelsea this season across all competitions, managing to find the back of the net just once as well as providing a single assist.

What next for Broja?

He had been close to leaving the club over the summer, having spent last season on loan at Southampton, but ultimately decided to remain at Stamford Bridge. He then signed a six-year contract and will be hoping to recover from this injury and fight for a starting place under Potter

Chelsea return to Premier League action when they face Bournemouth on December 27.
