The Blues scraped past Tottenham to move ahead of Manchester City on the Premier League table

Chelsea and Tottenham were involved in a scrappy London derby that featured nine yellow cards and two goals ruled out by VAR.

Despite the drama, the Blues still managed to secure all three points with a deserved 1-0 victory thanks to a second-half Enzo Fernandez goal.

How it happened

Chelsea came close to an early breakthrough when Nicolas Jackson nearly scored a fortuitous goal after the ball deflected off the post after a clearance from Micky van de Ven hit the Senegalese striker.

Spurs responded swiftly with Son Heung-min testing the Chelsea defense moments before Malo Gusto hit the side netting from range.

Jadon Sancho also came close to breaking the deadlock before halftime, forcing Guglielmo Vicario into a crucial reaction save from close range.

Although both teams entered the break level, it only took five minutes for Chelsea to take the lead early in the second half when Cole Palmer assisted Enzo Fernandez with a precise delivery for the Argentine to head home from six yards out.

Moises Caicedo nearly doubled the lead with a stunning volley, but VAR intervened, ruling an offside in the buildup.

Tottenham thought they had equalised through Pape Matar Sarr, who fired past Robert Sánchez after dispossessing Caicedo, but VAR ruled his challenge a foul.

Despite not extending their advantage, Chelsea secured a crucial win, temporarily leapfrogging Manchester City and Newcastle.
