Chelsea have reportedly joined their English rivals in the race to sign an elite winger as doubts persist over Jadon Sancho’s permanent signing.

Chelsea have reportedly entered the competition to sign Athletic Club's Nico Williams during the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old winger, who has impressed for Spain, winning the European Championship last year, is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs.

Chelsea’s Williams interest

Williams has played consistently for Bilbao, contributing 29 clubs in 159 appearances for the LaLiga side since the 2020-21 campaign.

The Blues are keen to strengthen their attacking options and have identified the winger as a potential signing.

According to TBR Football, Chelsea face competition from Arsenal and Liverpool, who are also interested in the Spanish international.

Williams is reportedly keen on a move to Barcelona, but the Catalan club may not prioritise his signing.

Chelsea's interest in Williams comes amid doubts about Jadon Sancho's permanent transfer. The Englishman, currently on loan from Manchester United, has had a steady season, but the West London club may not pursue a permanent deal.

If Sancho does not stay, Chelsea will need to reinforce their wing positions, and Williams is seen as a potential replacement, highlighting why the Blues are reportedly intensifying their efforts to sign him.
