The 20-year-old goalkeeper recorded his first clean sheet as a professional player.

Nigerian U-20 goalkeeper Chijioke Aniagboso has recorded a new milestone in his career, keeping his first clean sheet as a professional in Chornomorets Odesa's 1-0 win over LNZ Cherkasy in the Ukrainian Premier League.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper delivered a composed and commanding performance, helping his team secure a vital three points.

Aniagboso's rise

Aniagboso's journey to this achievement began with impressive performances in the 2023 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, where he kept four clean sheets in five matches, including a 4-0 win over Tunisia.

His success continued at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina, where he starred in Nigeria's wins over Italy and host nation Argentina.

After joining Chornomorets Odesa in September, Aniagboso was initially sidelined in favour of Ukrainian goalkeeper Artur Rudko.

However, a string of poor results and a defensive crisis led to his return to the starting lineup. In his first start since debuting last September, Aniagboso proved his worth, keeping a clean sheet against LNZ Cherkasy.

Aniagboso's progress has caught the attention of Nigerian football fans, with many speculating about his potential to become the Super Eagles' first-choice goalkeeper. With Stanley Nwabali facing scrutiny after a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe, Aniagboso's upward trajectory could make him a strong contender for the No. 1 shirt.

His next opportunity will come when Chornomorets Odesa travels to Obolon Kyiv next weekend.
