Chinedu played 72 minutes of the encounter, but it was captain Marin Tomasov who got Astana’s consolatory goal after the Blues had opened up a 3-0 goal lead.

Despite conditions well be 0℃, goals from Marc Guiu and Renato Veiga, as well as an own goal by Aleksandr Marochkin were enough to make it five wins from five games in the Conference League for Chelsea’s young Blues.

The win sees Chelsea firmly atop the Conference League standings with a perfect record of 15points from a possible 15, with 21 goals scored and only four conceded.

How it happened

Chelsea braved freezing -10°C temperatures in Almaty, Kazakhstan, to secure a 3-1 victory over Astana in the UEFA Conference League.

Manager Enzo Maresca fielded a youthful side, including four teenagers—a first for Chelsea in a major European competition.

Marc Guiu, 18, shone with a first-half goal, opening the scoring in the 14th before an 18th-minute own goal made it 2-0 to the visitors.

Renato Veiga’s unmarked header added a third after 39 minutes, but despite their dominance, Chelsea conceded a superb goal from Marin Tomasov just before halftime.

Tyrique George and Pedro came close to scoring in the second period, but Astana’s goalkeeper Mukhammedzhan Seisen, sporting a beanie due to the icy conditions, stood firm.

Chelsea maintained their perfect record in the League Phase and remain top of the pile, with one game left before the knockout stages.
