Edo Queens will host the current Group B leaders FC Robo of Lagos at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
Confluence Queens FC of Lokoja defeated the newly crowned Edo FA Cup champion Edo Queens Football Club of Benin 2-1 in the Nigeria Women's Football League (NWFL) Week 10 game played at the Lokoja Confluence Stadium, Kogi State.
The game began with free-flowing play from both teams, and after 15 minutes of play, Peter Martha scored for the home team after Edo Queens goalie Nkiruka Obidinma's attempt to stop a close-range shot from the opposition was insufficient.
Both teams kept up their impressive attacks on each other's goals as the tension-filled match progressed, putting pressure on the home team. This pressure led to an infraction against a Confluence Queens defender when she tackled Esther Chioma at the right flank of the corner kick.
At precisely the 45th minute of play, Edo Queens' renowned left winger Rebecca Ajimuda stepped up to take the magnificent free kick that gave the visitors the equalizer and left the score at 1-1.
A winning goal did not come until nine minutes remained in regulation time when the home team was awarded a penalty after the ball rolled into Edo Queens defender Omowumi Oshobukola's left hand just inside the box. The center referee quickly noticed the incident and gave the penalty to the home team. In order to defeat goalkeeper Nkiruka Obidinma and score the game-winning goal in the 81st minute, Chukwuamaka Isigwe made no mistakes.
Anxiety prevented Yetunde Fajobi from making the final strong run that would have allowed Edo Queens to tie the score after outrunning Confluence Queens goalkeeper Echefu Silvia.
With 15 points from eight games and this heartbreaking loss to Confluence Queens FC, Edo Queens FC is now third in Group B.
Next week Wednesday, Edo Queens will host the current Group B leaders FC Robo of Lagos at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
