Chelsea star, Cole Palmer might miss England’s World Cup qualifiers

Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer is expected to pull out of Thomas Tuchel's first England squad due to a muscle problem.

Chelsea's player of the season has not missed any game this season but was absent from Sunday's 1-0 defeat against Arsenal after picking up an injury in training on Saturday.

What happened

Chelsea coach, Enzo Maresca, confirmed that Palmer would undergo a scan on Monday to assess the extent of the injury.

"I don't think so, to be honest," Maresca said when asked if Palmer would be available for England's World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.

He continued, "His injury was from yesterday's session, and it's a muscle problem. So, I don't think so. He needs a scan, and it's planned for Monday, for tomorrow morning."

Maresca expressed hope that Palmer would be fit for Chelsea's meeting with Tottenham after the international break.

"I hope [that he will be back for Tottenham], but we need to wait for the scan," he said.

Maresca believes that missing out on England duty could prove a blessing in disguise for the 22-year-old.

"We don't wish players to get injured, but in Cole's case, in this moment, it will give him some rest, physically and mentally," Maresca said.

Palmer's injury comes at a time when he is experiencing a dip in form, having gone ten games without a goal across all competitions.
