Harambee Stars defender Collins Sichenje impressed in his debut for FK Vojvodina against Ajax in the UEFA Europa League qualifiers.

Kenya international Collins Sichenje made his debut for Serbian side FK Vojvodina on Thursday, July 25 in a 1-0 defeat to Ajax in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League.

Dutch midfielder  Branco van der Boomen scored the all-important goal in the 86th minute of the match played at Johan Cruijf Arena.

Sichenje clocked the entire 90 minutes in the match against the four-time European champions.

Ajax dominated the early proceedings leveraging their home advantage and tactical superiority.

The Amsterdammers exploited spaces on the right flank where Dane Rasmussen provided several dangerous crosses into the box.

Ajax’s aggressive playstyle saw them hitting the woodwork and forcing several saves from Vojvodina's goalkeeper Lazar Carevic including key stops from shots by Carlos Forbs and Rasmussen.

FK Vojvodina began to find their footing largely due to Sichenje’s robust midfield control.

The former AFC Leopards man's ability to break up play and initiate counter-attacks provided the Serbian team with much-needed momentum and several scoring opportunities.

The most notable chance came late in the game when substitute Aleksa Vukanovic nearly equalized hitting the post just minutes after coming on.

The tactical adjustments by Vojvodina's Italian coach Farioli in the second half, allowed the team to exert more control and challenge Ajax’s defense.

The introduction of players like Steven Berghuis and Mika Godts by Ajax did add an attacking impetus but Vojvodina's improved play kept the match competitive until the final whistle.

Sichenje’s debut has been widely praised by fans and analysts noting his seamless adaptation to European football and his poised demeanor under pressure.

Looking ahead Vojvodina faces a tough challenge in the return leg as they strive to overturn the deficit and advance to the next round where they would face either Panathinaikos from Greece or Botev Plovdiv from Bulgaria.
