With only 17 available players, the LaLiga side were forced to withdraw from a pre-season game

LaLiga minnows Getafe have found themselves in a precarious situation as they prepare for the upcoming season as they were recently forced to cancel a scheduled friendly against Albacete, citing a shortage of available players.

Player shortage rocks Getafe

According to Cadena Cope, the club only has 17 players available in their first-team squad. This includes Borja Mayoral, who is likely to be sold, Fabrizio Angileri, who is set to leave, and Peter Federico, who is on Olympic duty.

In a recent match against Real Oviedo, manager Jose Bordalas was forced to field a B-team forward, Nabil, and pair him with centre-back Omar Alderete in attack, as the club had no other players to fill the void left in attack.

Having also given up on signing Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood on loan, the options for Getafe appear slim, with few strikers within their grasp.

Getafe sweating ahead of new LaLiga season

With the new LaLiga season just 18 days away, the pressure is mounting on Sporting Director Ruben Reyes and President Angel Torres to bolster their paper-thin squad on a meagre budget.

Getafe has four more friendlies planned, including matches against Real Zaragoza, Atletico Madrid, Saint-Etienne, and Southampton, before they kick off their season on August 15th against Athletic Club at San Mames.

The club's management is under scrutiny as fans and pundits alike await new signings to strengthen the team because the lack of transfer activity not only threatens Getafe's preseason preparations but could also impact their competitiveness in the league.
