Italian coach Gian Piero Gasperini has provided insight into the form of Ademola Lookman and his Atalanta teammates after 12-game unbeaten run.

Italian giants Atalanta continued their impressive run in the UEFA Champions League with a commanding 6-1 victory over Young Boys in Bern, extending their unbeaten streak to 12 matches across all competitions.

The match, which featured a standout performance from Charles De Ketelaere, saw the Belgian midfielder score twice and provide three assists, showcasing the depth and talent of Gian Piero Gasperini's squad.

Despite missing key player Ademola Lookman, who remained on the bench for the entirety of the match, Atalanta dominated the game from start to finish.

Mateo Retegui opened the scoring in the 9th minute, only for Young Boys' Silvère Ganvoula to equalise shortly after. This was the first goal conceded by Atalanta in this season's Champions League, but it did little to disrupt their momentum.

De Ketelaere quickly asserted his influence on the match, scoring his first goal in the 28th minute following a corner.

He then assisted Sead Kolasinac just three minutes later, before setting up Retegui again before halftime. The second half saw De Ketelaere score his second goal, further solidifying his status as the game's standout player.

Gasperini praised his team's performance, noting that despite conceding early, they maintained their composure. “We conceded a goal from a dead ball shortly after taking the lead, and perhaps it could have created some problems,” he told UEFA.com moments after the game.

“But the team is solid and confident,” he added, highlighting two key attributes that have elevated the team. “The victory in the Europa League has made the players grow considerably in confidence, self-esteem and awareness.”

The Atalanta coach also emphasised the importance of their preparation for this match, especially given their upcoming fixtures against formidable opponents like Real Madrid and Barcelona.

“We approached this match with great concentration,” Gasperini explained. “Inter suffered here, and we weren’t that calm beforehand because we still have to face Real Madrid and Barcelona. The risk was that if we had not won then it could all come down to the last game against Sturm Graz.”

While Lookman was an integral part of Atalanta's success in their historic Europa League campaign—where he scored a hat-trick in the final—his absence did not hinder the team's performance against Young Boys.

The victory not only showed Atalanta's attacking ability but also highlighted their resilience and depth as they aim for success in Europe this season.

Following the win, Atalanta climbed to fourth place in their Champions League group with 11 points from five matches.

Gasperini, who has reinvented Lookman and some of his colleagues, will look to continue to build momentum as they look ahead to crucial fixtures that could define their campaign.
