Controversy ensued at the hour-mark when Busoga Province thought that they had restored their lead through Daniel Shabena, but it was flagged off.
Busoga Province is preparing to petition FUFA over the general conduct of referee Henry Byaruhanga and his first assistant Susan Nyango following their 1-1 draw with Bugisu Province in the FUFA Drum on Sunday in Kamuli.
Busoga Province took the lead in the 21st minute through Isaac Wagoina, but their Eastern neighbours equalized through Emmanuel Mukisa 14 minutes later.
However, controversy ensued at the hour-mark when Busoga thought that they had restored the lead through Daniel Shabena, but Nyango flagged it off.
Yunus Sibira had collected the ball in Busoga’s half before setting up Wagoina for a counter-attack on the right.
The forward seemed to be on-side before going on to slice a cross which Stephen Namayise headed away.
The clearance fell on Shabena’s path, belted it to the bottom left corner and wheeled away for celebrations, only to be surprised by the flag.
Match-fixing
According to Busoga Province’s camp, the referee allegedly asked for a shs.200,000 bribe to spin the match in favour of the hosts.
“I found them [referees] at Kyemba Guest House in a meeting [planning] how they will fail us with some guys from Mbale whom I can only recognize by face,” the team’s PRO Jacob Yateesa narrated to Pulse Sports via phone.
He went on further with his revelations: “Byaruhanga asked from us shs.200,000; that we give him water, and we asked what it was for!”
The PRO confirmed that the team will deliver their petition to FUFA on Tuesday morning.
The result leaves Busoga in a precarious situation, leading Group C with five points, two and three ahead of West Nile and Bugisu.
They travel to Adjumani at the end of the month to face West Nile in their last group game.
West Nile and Bugisu will face each other in Mbale in the last group game.
