Copa America failure is my fault — Brazil boss defends Vinicius Junior, others
Brazil head coach Dorival Junior said he takes "full responsibility" for his team's disappointing Copa América quarterfinal exit to 10-man Uruguay.
Prior to kick-off, Pereira, who was once on the books of Manchester United, stated that Brazil were favourites because they had superior players. After the victory, Suarez ensured to fire back.
What Suarez said
“We have the best midfielders in the world, top-level players,” Suarez told reporters, per GOAL. “To talk about Uruguay, you have to have a little more respect and know the history of Uruguay.
"Before I say which players want to be on the Brazilian national team, I have to say that the person who made that comment was [Giorgian] De Arrascaeta’s reserve [at Flamengo], who is the best player in Brazilian football. So imagine what it’s like for us to hear that."
Pereira was forced to clarify his statement, however, explaining that he meant no disrespect for Uruguay, as he was only backing his team.
“I simply said that I preferred it and I think our players are better, so if they used that to their advantage, they can do whatever they want. But at no time did I show any disrespect towards Uruguay."
Meanwhile, Uruguay will play Colombia in the semi-final of Copa America in four days.
