Luton Town held off Coventry to secure a Premier League status for the first time in their history and three Nigerians helped make that happen.

For the first time in 31 years, Luton Town will play in the Premier League following a dramatic Championship playoff battle against Coventry.

Luton defeated Coventry 6-5 on penalties to secure a first-ever Premier League status for the Hatters with three Nigerians fully involved in their journey.

Elijah Adebayo, Gabriel Osho, and Fred Onyedinma joined their teammates in action to write their names in the club’s history books on Saturday.

While the former duo started the encounter, Onyedinma joined them as a second half substitute in the dramatic final at Wembley.

The giant striker who stands at 6ft 4in has been a remarkable presence all season for Luton and played a key role in their road to Wembley and also in the decisive playoffs.

Elijah Adebayo created the most chances against Coventry.
The giant forward assisted the opener for the Hatters.

Adebayo was in his creative best against Coventry who did well to stop him from adding to his goal tally this season.

He created the most chances (three) in the playoff on Saturday, made the most key passes (two) and importantly, assisted Jordan Clark for the opener in the tie.

In total, the 25-year-old, who lasted 106 minutes against Coventry, scored eight goals and assisted five in the Championship for the Hatters.

Gabriel Osho, 24

Another player who featured regularly from start to finish this season was Gabriel Osho, the young centre-back.

He scored three goals this season in 30 appearances, including a decisive one in the Championship playoff.

The oldest of the Nigerian Hatters also had the fewest minutes but was an important part of the team’s journey.
