Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly set to receive one of the greatest legacy-defining honours to put him in the same league as some of the world's most iconic figures.

Portugal are reportedly set to honour the country's greatest legend and most successful export Cristiano Ronaldo with a remarkable 7 Euro coin.

Ronaldo is one of the greatest sportsmen in history and his tally of 901 official goals makes him the greatest goalscorer of all time and arguably football's most iconic figure.

The 39-year-old has won it all for club and country and is a major reason for Portugal's rise in status in the eyes of the footballing world.

The 5-time Ballon d'Or winner is also one of the world's most popular people, and recently made social media history by becoming the first person to have one billion followers across various platforms.

He led his country to the 2016 Euros trophy as well as the Nations League, and according to SportsKeeda, Portugal will pay tribute to their beloved son, Cristiano Ronaldo, with a unique honor - a commemorative "7" Euro coin.

The special coin will feature an image of the superstar and bear his iconic "CR7" moniker.

What's more, this coin won't just be a collector's item; it will be a legitimate form of currency across Portugal once launched.

The number seven holds special significance for Ronaldo, who has worn this jersey number throughout his illustrious career. From his early days at Sporting Lisbon to his triumphant stints at Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and back to United, before joining Al Nassr.

Other famous legends who have been immortalised through currency notes or coins include South Africa's Nelson Mandela, Queen Elizabeth II of England, Benjamin Franklin of the United states and many more.

Ronaldo will become the first sportsman to join such an exclusive legendary list.
