The top two teams will be promoted to the NWFL Premiership, while the bottom two will be relegated.

Cross River State has been selected as the host for the 2023/2024 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship. The second-tier competition will take place from August 31 to September 8, 2024, in Calabar.

Following the successful Premiership Super Six finals in Bayelsa State, where Edo Queens emerged victorious, the NWFL Championship is set to kick off.

The event will feature over 17 clubs divided into four groups. The competition format includes a group stage with six matchdays, followed by final matches to determine promotion and relegation.

The top two teams will gain promotion to the NWFL Premiership, while the bottom two teams will be relegated.

Draws and pre-match meetings for the championship will occur on August 29, the day after the clubs arrive in Cross River State.

Edo Queens win NWFL title

Meanwhile, Pulse Sports reported that Edo Queens emerged as the champions of the NWFL Premiership, claiming their first-ever title.

The Benin City-based club features Peace Abbey, recognised as the most beautiful female footballer in the NWFL. Coach Moses Aduku needed a win to secure the championship, but their fate hinged on the result of the match between seven-time champions Rivers Angels and Super Six newcomers Heartland Queens.

Sunshine Queens and Royal Queens were relegated to the championship.
