Team Kenya, flagged off by CS Ababu Namwamba, is set to represent the nation at the All-African Games in Accra, Ghana.

Sports and Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has presided over the flagging-off ceremony for Team Kenya, set to represent the country at the All-African Games in Accra, Ghana, from March 19th to 23rd, 2024.

This pivotal event, held at the prestigious Nyayo National Stadium, followed a rigorous two-day trial that culminated in the selection of 52 athletes, who are now primed to showcase the best of Kenyan talent and spirit on the continental stage.

The Athletics Kenya (AK), adhering to a quota from the Kenya National Sports Council (KNSC), had initially intended to pick only one competitor per category, a decision that was later revised to accommodate the athletes' grievances.

During the flag-off, Cabinet Secretary Namwamba handed over the national flag to the team, a gesture imbued with symbolism.

"Our presence here during the handover ceremony has underscored the commitment and support to uplift the country’s efforts towards our sportsmen and women," stated Namwamba, emphasizing the government's resolve to back sports development in Kenya.

The government's dedication to sports was further underlined by Namwamba's announcement of increased allowances, revised rewarding schemes, and the initiation of an affordable housing program specifically designed for athletes.

In his stirring address, the Cabinet Secretary conveyed well wishes from President H.E Dr. William Ruto, the Cabinet, and the Kenyan people, all of whom are rallying behind Team Kenya.

He expressed confidence in the team's ability to showcase the best of Kenyan talent and spirit on the international stage.

Team Kenya, a diverse group embodying the best of Kenyan talent and spirit across various disciplines, received the flag with both honor and a profound sense of responsibility.
