Gor Mahia have been challenged to show great ambition by ensuring they have a stadium and clubhouse after being gifted a new team bus by ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo

ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo is keen to ensure Gor Mahia have their own stadium and clubhouse after gifting K’Ogalo a new bus.

Owalo led a ceremony that culminated into the handing over of the new bus to the club at Kasarani Stadium on Saturday in the presence of the team and fans who could not hide their delight.

Gor have been without a bus since 2020 when former player Wellington Ochieng auctioned the club's bus following a court ruling over money K’Ogalo owed to him but Owalo has come to their rescue, after making the promise in April.

With the bus delivered, the CS now wants the club to aim higher given they are one of the second oldest clubs in the country, having been founded in 1968.

“Next stop is to get a clubhouse and a stadium, we will do everything possible to ensure Gor gets facilities that befit the status of K’Ogalo. We will work with our friends in Kenya and abroad to realise that objective,” Owalo said at the ceremony, before officially handing over the bus to the club.

The bus reportedly cost Ksh23 million and was acquired by the Eliud Owalo Foundation.

“It is an Isuzu bus, body built by Master bodybuilders. It is a 42-seater bus, originally it was 62-seater but for comfort of long-distance travel, we have cut off 20 so that there are only 42 with five first and business class seats just behind by the driver,” Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier told the media on Tuesday.

“It is donated by Eliud Owalo Foundation. It is custom and fully paid for. The bus has already been registered by NTSA under KDN 068. As you know, 68 is significant for Gor Mahia as it is the year it was founded,” he added.

Gor Mahia, alongside bitter rivals AFC Leopards, were allocated land in Kasarani by former President Daniel Arap Moi in 1991 to build a stadium but the two clubs have not been able to actualise the dream for over three decades.

Rachier previously blamed cash constraints on their inability to build the stadium and it remains to be seen if the push by Owalo will bear fruit.
