The Red Devils defender has hailed Ruben Amorim’s words as the reason behind their great performance in the draw with Liverpool.

Manchester United delivered their most spirited performance under manager Amorim in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Diogo Dalot played a standout role, tormenting Trent Alexander-Arnold on the flank and offering hope for brighter days after a challenging season.

After the game, the Portuguese spoke to the press, revealing the major inspiration behind the great showing from the team.

Amorim’s call sparks a response

Manchester United have had tough start to life with Ruben Amorim at the helm

According to Dalot, Amorim had urged his senior players to step up and lead ahead of the trip to Anfield, describing how some squad members were "sometimes afraid" and needed guidance.

The players responded with grit, ending a run of four consecutive defeats in what Dalot described as a galvanising moment.

"It pinched me. I think that's what he wanted for every player," Dalot admitted while speaking after the game.

"I've been here for a while. I know that I can step up a little bit more as well in that level, and I'm going to try to help my teammates for as long as I can. You could see that we were more a team. That was the biggest difference."

The impact of proper training

Amorim, who has faced a tough start to life at Old Trafford, finally had a full week of uninterrupted training before the Liverpool clash—a luxury he had not enjoyed before.

Dalot credited the preparation time for United’s improved structure and understanding on the pitch.

"It's training, it's proper training, it's time on the pitch, knowing what everybody wants to do," Dalot explained.

"When you have time to know what to do, I think it becomes more natural. And you saw the structure was much more compact, probably a bit more like we knew this player would be in that position."

United will hope to build on this performance when they face Arsenal in the FA Cup third round next weekend, with Amorim seeking to turn a corner in what has been a turbulent season.
