Beckham has revealed the biggest thing that Man United have missed since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 that has hindered the club from making discernible progress.
Former Manchester United great David Beckham has revealed the biggest thing that has been missing at the club since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
Beckham made these remarks while attending the premiere of a new documentary about United's treble-winning side of 1999. His Studio 99 company has been involved in the production of the three-part series titled '99', set to launch on May 17.
Acknowledging the challenges United has faced in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, Beckham stressed the importance of the documentary in inspiring the current generation of players.
Beckham has attributed United’s problems down to a lack of general motivation, something he hopes the upcoming film will help inspire the players to play for the badge moving forward.
"Obviously it's been a tough five, 10, 15 years at United, and we all know that, but it was never going to be easy when the boss left, (Roy) Keane left, Giggsy (Ryan Giggs) left, Gary (Neville) left," Beckham commented, reflecting on the club's transitional period.
Reflecting on his pivotal role in United's historic treble triumph, Beckham addressed the current challenges facing the club, particularly under manager Erik ten Hag, who is facing pressure following the team's disappointing performances.
"You'd hope that the manager doesn't have to do much. I think that's the whole point of being a Manchester United player and playing in these big games - you should be motivated," Beckham stated, emphasizing the responsibility of the players to maintain their drive and commitment.
Beckham expressed hope that United's upcoming FA Cup final against arch-rivals Manchester City could provide an opportunity for the current squad to showcase their worth and prove their dedication to the club.

TBT: How Joselu went from one goal in nine months at Newcastle to being the Real Madid UCL semis hero
Joselu scored more goals in 180 seconds during Real Madrid's dramatic UCL semis victory over Bayern than he did in his last nine months at Newcastle
"When you're a professional footballer and you're doing the job you love and you're at the club you love, when you're playing in any game, whether it's a regular season game or whether it's an FA Cup final against your rivals, that should be enough motivation," he remarked.
With his deep connection to United and his own successful tenure at the club, Beckham's insights carry weight as the team navigates through its current struggles. As the documentary '99' prepares to unveil the glories of the past, Beckham hopes it will instill a renewed sense of inspiration and determination among the current United players.
