Manchester City came back from an early goal to sink Crystal Palace thanks to a Kevin de Bruyne masterclass
A Kevin De Bruyne-inspired Manchester City showcased their resilience as they rallied from an early setback to secure a commanding 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Two goals from De Bruyne and one each from Erling Haaland and Rico Lewis helped Manchester City recover from an early Jean Phillipe Mateta goal to secure a comfortable victory despite a late consolation from Odsonne Edouard.
How it happened
The match kicked off with an unexpected twist as Crystal Palace stunned the visitors with an early goal just four minutes into the game. Jean-Philippe Mateta capitalized on a defensive lapse from Manchester City, racing clear and finishing brilliantly off the far post to give Palace the lead.
Manchester City didn't take long to respond, with their talisman Kevin De Bruyne stepping up to the plate. The Belgian maestro produced a moment of magic with a stunning curling effort to the top corner, restoring parity for the Cityzens just under 10 minutes after conceding.
Despite the early setback, Manchester City maintained their composure and continued to press forward. Their persistence paid off early in the second half when Rico Lewis capitalized on a loose clearance to put City ahead with a well-taken finish, marking his second goal of the season in this fixture.
As the game progressed, Manchester City's attacking prowess came to the fore, with Jack Grealish and Kevin De Bruyne pulling the strings in midfield. Grealish, in particular, was instrumental in City's third goal, delivering a sublime pass to De Bruyne, who then set up Erling Haaland to get back among the goals.
Kevin De Bruyne further etched his name into Manchester City's history books by scoring his 100th goal for the club, adding a fourth for City with a clinical finish. The Belgian midfielder's exceptional performance epitomized City's dominance throughout the match.
Despite City's commanding lead, Crystal Palace managed to pull one back through substitute Odsonne Edouard, who capitalized on a late break forward to score a consolation goal for the home side.
The resounding victory sees Manchester City move level with Liverpool at the summit of the Premier League table, showcasing their championship credentials once again. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace, under the guidance of Oliver Glasner, remain in 14th place, with work to do in the remaining fixtures of the season.
