NWFL Delta Queens beats defending champion to maintain top of Group A

Delta Queens defeated the defending champions, Bayelsa Queens on home soil.

Delta Queens will be ending the first stanza of this season’s Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season as the leader of Group A of the abridged league.

The top-of-the-table clash in Group A saw Bayelsa Queens suffer a defeat when they hosted Bayelsa Queens at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.

Group A witnessed three games, one home win, one away win, and a draw.

Bayelsa Queens 1-2 Delta Queens

The visitor opens the goal chat in the game in the 51st minute thanks to Chinaza Agoh’s volley.

The Yenegoa-based side pushed for a level with the breakthrough Igboamalu Chinyere in the 70th minute to put the host on level.

Agoh doubled his goals in the game to seal the victory for the visitors in the last minute of the game.

The victory saw Delta Queens open a five-point lead over Bayelsa Queens at the top of Group A with 16 points.

Heartland Queens 2-0 Osun Babes

Heartland Queens defeated Osun Babes, 2-0 to record her second win of the season at the Dan Ayim stadium, Imo state.

Goals from Mary Lucky and Chizoba ensured the victory for the hosts.

In the last game in Group A, Royal Queens and former champions Rivers Angels shared spoils at the Sapele Stadium, Delta State.

With today’s results Delta Queens top Group, A with 16 points, and Rivers Angels are second with nine points.

Heartland Queens is ranked third with eight points followed by Abuja based, Naija Ratels FC who have seven points and are placed fourth on the log

The Royal Queens are fifth with four points while the Osun Babes are bottom on the log with just three points.
