Delta Queens star, Mercy Omokwo, has vowed that her and her teammate will ensure to make Nigeria proud on the continent.

Omokwo won the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership top goalscorer with nine goals.

Pulse Sports reported that Delta Queens won the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title for the first time in 11 years.

Bayelsa Queens were defeated by a 2-1 comeback victory, and Mercy Omokwo finished the year as the leading goal scorer with nine goals.

Delta Queens defeated the defending champions at the final of the NWFL premiership Super six final at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

Delta Queens to represent Nigeria on the Continent

With Delta Queens winning the League, they will be third club to represent Nigeria on the continent after Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels.

Bayelsa Queens won Bronze medal last season.

Delta Queens will start at the WAFU-B Zonal Qualifiers later this year and hope to assist Delta Queens in advancing to the 2023 CAF Women's Champions League.

Mercy Omokwo vows to make Nigeria proud on the continent

Delighted Mercy told Pulse Sports Nigeria after winning the golden boot that the next target is to help the team to make the coutry proud on the country.

She said, "We have started working on having a successful campaign at the WAFU champions league because it is not going to be easy, we pray ad hope to make our country proud."

She added that she worked hard to win the Golden boot.

She said, “We worked so hard for the team as attackers to make things happen so we give God all the glory and hoped for a better season.

“On the field, you bring in your skills to play together with the knowledge the coach gave to us to bring glory to the team. We don’t play individual football.
