The two former Gor Mahia players were involved in their second league match in a row for their Zambian team but could not secure maximum points

Former Gor Mahia defender Dennis Ng’ang’a played all 90 minutes while compatriot John Ochieng was a second-half substitute as Zanaco FC recorded a 1-1 draw with FC Muza in the Zambian Super League on Wednesday.

Ng’ang’a, who joined Zanaco from Gor Mahia last month, was starting his second straight match for his new employers and put in a good display at the back although hide side threw away the lead to draw at the Nakambala Stadium.

Coach Wedson ‘Wada’ Nyirenda fielded the same starting XI that secured another 1-1 draw with Forest Rangers last weekend in a bid to get some consistency and his side responded with a quick start.

Francis Mwenya missed a scoring opportunity in the 29th minute but Zanaco were celebrating a goal 11 minutes later when Chawanangwa Kaonga headed home Charles Zulu’s cross for a 1-0 halftime lead.

Zulu was then stretchered off 10 minutes into the second half after sustaining an injury and Nyirenda responded by making a double substitution, bringing in Wilson Chisala for the injured captain, while ex-K’Ogalo midfielder Ochieng replaced Mwenya.

However, any hopes of Zanaco extending their lead went up in smoke in the 61st minute when Muza were awarded a penalty after Samuel Sikanonga’s foul in the area. Andrew Phiri stepped up and converted the penalty for the home side.

Both sides held on to share the spoils but Zanaco will feel disappointed after having the lion’s share of chances.

It was another good outing for the former Gor Mahia players who seem to have the confidence of their new coach.

The two players left K’Ogalo after the conclusion of the 2022-23 FKF Premier League season, Ng'ang'a joining Zanaco in July, while Ochieng was drafted in two over weeks ago.
