Kenyan club still hunting for Modo's replacement

Success starved Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side Bandari were left with egg on their face after their top target to replace the fired Anthony ‘Modo' Kimani turned down what would have been the highest salary ever offered by a Kenyan club.

Just days after parting ways with the hugely popular but underachieving Kimani, Bandari launched an audacious move for Tunisian Nasredinne Nabbi.

Nabbi had caught everyone’s eyes in the continent after guiding Yanga to a fairy run in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Bandari first cleared out their technical bench and the management and installed cool ruler Twahir Mihidin as interim coach as they went shopping in Dar es Salaam.

A section of the club’s management held talks with Nabbi and his representatives and the coastal project seemed appealing to the Tunisian tactician.

The two parties failed to strike agreement when bandari tabled their final offer of Sh1.5 million. Nabbi and his representatives walked out terming the offer too little. Nabbi earns $20,000 at Yanga so taking the Bandari job at that salary would be a step down.

A little bird humming atop one coconut tree disclosed that before leaving, Nabbi and his representatives promised to refer other coaches from Tunisia who would work with the proposed amount.

“The club is in disarray as we speak. The management really want results and titles and continental football. They gave Kimani time but success did not come. They now want to try a foreign coach and they are willing to splash the cash. This was a show of seriousness from the management to go for such a high achieving coach,” disclosed the source

Should Nabby had agreed to join Bandari, his wages would have made history in Kenya. The highest paid coach in Kenya is currently Patrick Aussems of AFC Leopards who takes home a cool Sh850,000 followed by Jonathan McKinstry of Gor Mahia who earns Sh700,000.

“The next coach at Bandari will not have the luxury of time as this current management team want quick success. They are willing to write the cheques to bring in top players and top coaches if that is what it costs to bring success to the coast,” added the source
