The Liverpool captain reprimanded his colleagues after Sunday’s point against the Red Devils.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has expressed his disappointment after his side's 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Anfield.

Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances, Arne Slot’s were unable to secure all three points, with defensive errors proving costly.

Manchester United took the lead early in the second half through a Lisandro Martinez goal; however, the home side responded, with Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah finding the net to put the Reds in front.

Amad Diallo then equalised for United in the 80th minute, setting up a tense finale. Both teams had opportunities to snatch victory in the closing stages, but ultimately the points were shared on Merseyside.

Van Dijk admitted his frustration with the manner in which Liverpool conceded their two goals, describing the defending as unacceptable, lazy and careless.

He highlighted the need for improvement in basic defensive principles, particularly in dealing with crosses and preventing easy scoring opportunities.

"Disappointed at the moment, though it could have been a lot worse with that last chance,” said the Liverpool captain. “The way we conceded the two goals was unacceptable, lazy and careless – it shouldn't happen. It's an easy cross and a tap-in – it's basic things that we have to improve.

"It was always going to be a tough game, they have good players and a new manager and I don't think they get the respect they deserve.

“They made it difficult for us today and it could have gone their way, but I look at my own team and we should have done a lot better."
