Noel Le Graet was forced to resign after an audit into his time as FFF president found him unfit to continue in his post
As rumoured earlier, France Football Federation president Noel Le Graet today resigned his post as mounting pressure and declining support followed damning audit findings into his time as chief executive of the Federation.
Le Graet resigns as FFF President
During a meeting of the board of the FFF, Le Graet formally resigned his position as president, and his resignation was accepted by the Federation. In his place, Philippe Diallo, who has been serving as interim president since investigations into Le Gaet took place, will continue to serve in that capacity until June.
Le Graet had been in charge of FFF since 2011 but was advised to resign after a government-requested audit into bullying and sexual harassment charges levelled against the 81-year-old executive found sufficient evidence to recommend that he “no longer has the necessary legitimacy to manage and represent French football.”
Following the findings, the auditors also passed their findings on to prosecutors, who will now open their own investigations into the former Ligue 1 chairperson.
Le Graet to head FIFA’s Paris office
Le Graet’s resignation has come as no surprise to many within the French football community considering the situation, and FFF executive committee member Eric Borghini described his decision to step down as “logic and reason prevailing”
Borghini described the scenes of Le Graet’s announcements as very emotional, thanking him for his service to the FFF and commending the work the now-former president did in leading France to numerous football milestones during his tenure.
Finally, Borghini also let slip that Le Graet had been headhunted by FIFA president Gianni Infantino to head the global football governing body’s offices in Paris as his tenure with the FFF comes to an end.
