. Humphrey Katasi is set to fill the void, bringing his Golden Glove-winning skills to the team.

AFC Leopards faithful will have to wait a bit longer to see their star goalkeeper Levis Opiyo in action as he is set to miss the opening two matches of the highly anticipated 2023/2024 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season.

The news comes as a disappointment for fans who were eager to witness Opiyo's exceptional goalkeeping skills back in action.

The opening match of the season is scheduled for Sunday, August 27, where AFC Leopards will go head-to-head against FC Talanta at the iconic Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Opiyo's absence will be felt once again when Ingwe faces off against KCB FC on September 13, at a venue yet to be announced.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper, who impressively secured 16 clean sheets during the previous season, is on the road to recovery after suffering a knee injury.

He resumed training on Monday under the watchful eye of the team's skilled goalkeeping coach, Lawrence Juma.

Opiyo's absence during the team's pre-season training sessions has been noted, but his determination to return to peak fitness and secure his spot on the roster remains unwavering.

"Glad to have resumed training yesterday, feels good, now it's time to work hard and to be in shape. I will miss our first two to three opening season matches due to fitness, but I will work hard to be on selection soon," Opiyo shared optimistically on his official Facebook Page on Tuesday.

Stepping into Opiyo's shoes will be the talented Humphrey Katasi, who recently made the transition from Nzoia Sugar FC to AFC Leopards.

Katasi's prowess as a goalkeeper is already well-known, having shared the FKF Premier League Golden Glove award with Gad Mathews.

As fans eagerly await Opiyo's return to the pitch, they can take solace in the capable hands of Katasi, who is poised to make his mark in AFC Leopards' quest for glory in the upcoming season.
