The Red Eagles hoped to have their star attacker for the season, having featured in the first two games of the Uganda Premier League season and scored against Busoga United in the 2-0 win a fortnight back.

As he announced his departure from Express FC for Ethiopia's Shashemene City FC, Allan Kayiwa has pleaded for the former's fans not to lay judgements on his decision.

But they will now be heartbroken as a sudden upturn of events had him sign for Shashemene days back.

"Hello, Express nation, it (has) been the toughest time for me to say such a thing," Kayiwa started in his farewell via his official X handle.

"However (whoever) judges me remember was (once) a Red Eagle (is) always a Red Eagle," Kayiwa added as he asked the Express fans not to judge him.

"Thanks so much, Express FC and everyone at the club. Now, it's time to start a new chapter. I wish everyone the best," he summed.

It should be noted that Kayiwa penned down a one-year employment contract with the Ethiopian Premier League side a few days ago.

Meanwhile, the 2022/23 Uganda Premier League top scorer (13 goals) had only recently signed a six-month short-term contract extension with Express.

His new contract at Express had come only moments before they played their first season game against Mbarara City FC, which eventually ended in a barren stalemate.

Months back, Kayiwa had been the subject of speculation linking him to various teams in Rwanda, a return to Vipers and a close switch to NEC FC.

At Shashemene City, Kayiwa joins former BUL FC and SC Villa goalkeeper Saidi Keni, who joined them earlier in the September transfer window.

After just one game played in the Ethiopian Premier League, Shashemene sits 14th on the 16-team table with no points.

In their second campaign game, they take on Hawassa later on Sunday, and it's unclear whether Kayiwa will be handed his debut.
