England boss Gareth Southgate has admitted that trimming his squad down to 26 players for EURO 2024 will be extremely difficult.

England began their preparations for EURO 2024 on Monday night with a 3-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The victory produced several strong performances, with the likes of Chelsea's Cole Palmer and Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze impressing to a high degree.

Southgate is preparing for the tournament with 33 players but can submit only 26 names to Uefa by the Friday deadline.

Southgate expects to make difficult calls over squad cut

The Egland boss is under no illusions that trimming his squad will require some tough calls.

England defeated Bosnia 3-0 in a warm-up game ahead of EURO 2024

“Eberechi played with real freedom and swagger,” said Southgate

"And I thought Cole linked play very well. It was lovely to see his first goal. Trent’s was a beautiful finish, he made a very difficult finish look straightforward.

“Of course, it’s going to be difficult to cut the number down.

“I want to make fair and brave decisions but those decisions are always going to be subjective.

"We’re spinning a lot of plates. I’ll talk things through with the staff and we’ll find the best way of doing it.”

England begin their EURO 2024 journey with an opener against Serbia on June 16.
