The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu has won the title of Best Sports Performing Deputy Governor and been nominated to receive Nigeria's Sports Governors Merit Award in 2022.
The nomination of the Deputy Governor was "in recognition of his unprecedented investments and achievements in Sports Development in Edo State," according to a statement released by the award's organizers, Nigeria Sports Philanthropists Award, Nigeria Sports Governors' Merit Award 2023, Federal Ministry of Sports & Youth Development, Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, and Society for Promotion of Sports.

The Award investiture and banquet will take place at the Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Centre in FCT-Abuja on may 3rd.
