Augustine Eguavoen has been serving as interim coach since September 2024, successfully leading the team to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Udeze, however, believes that Eguavoen is a more qualified candidate and questioned the rationale behind Chelle's selection.
Speaking on Brila FM, Udeze stated, "A coach Mali sacked for a poor run in the World Cup qualifiers, does he deserve this job?"

Negative reactions continue to follow the appointment of the Super Eagles’s first-ever non-Nigerian African coach, with the latest coming from the Nigerian students.
He further argued, "The most annoying thing is that Augustine Eguavoen, who was our interim coach, has a better CV than this Eric Chelle. On what grounds was Chelle employed?"
Udeze went on to suggest that Chelle's motivations for accepting the job were not in the best interests of Nigerian football.
"He took the job to enhance his CV. He doesn’t care whether we qualify for the World Cup or not. That’s the only reason he accepted the job," Udeze claimed.
Udeze's comments reflect a sentiment of disappointment and disbelief at the NFF's choice, raising concerns about Chelle's suitability for the role and his commitment to Nigeria's success.
