The Egyptian footbal administration have dismissed Portuguese boss Rui Vitoria following the Pharoah's undewhelming AFCON outing.
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has decided to part ways with Portuguese manager Rui Vitoria following Egypt's disappointing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign in Ivory Coast.
The decision was made after the Pharaohs exited the tournament at the last-16 stage, suffering an agonising 8-7 penalty shootout defeat against DR Congo in San Pedro.

The story of how Mo Salah ended a long crisis in Egypt season with two critical moments.
A Disappointing AFCON Journey
Egypt's AFCON journey was marred by struggles from the very beginning. The team failed to secure a single victory throughout the tournament, facing a challenging road ahead. Adding to their woes, they were severely hampered by an early injury to their talismanic captain, Mohamed Salah.
During the group stage, Egypt found themselves locked in three successive 2-2 draws against Mozambique, Ghana, and Cape Verde, signalling early warning signs. These underwhelming performances culminated in their ultimate elimination at the hands of DR Congo.
In an official statement released on Sunday, the EFA announced the termination of Rui Vitoria's contract, along with his entire backroom staff, following a meeting of their board of directors.
This decision marks a significant change in leadership for the Egyptian national team, signalling a shift in the direction they intend to take.
Mohamed Youssef, a former Al Ahly coach, has been appointed as Egypt's interim manager. At the same time, the EFA openly expressed their intention to explore the qualifications of potential foreign coaches to take the helm in the future.
The Vitoria Era Comes to an End
Rui Vitoria, a former Benfica and Spartak Moscow manager, was appointed as Egypt's head coach in 2022, succeeding Ehab Galal. He initially signed a four-year deal with the goal of leading Egypt through to the 2026 World Cup.
Vitoria's reign started on a positive note, winning 12 out of 14 games in charge before AFCON 2023, which included two victories at the outset of the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
However, despite the promising start, the disappointment in Ivory Coast proved to be a turning point, resulting in his dismissal.
Departure of Other Coaches at AFCON 2023
Rui Vitoria is not the only coach to part ways with their team following the conclusion of AFCON 2023. Algeria's Djamel Belmadi, Gambia's Tom Saintfiet, Ghana's Chris Hughton, Tunisia's Jalel Kadri, Tanzania's Adel Amrouche, and Ivory Coast's Jean-Louis Gasset also bid farewell to their respective teams.
