The former Real Madrid and Spain captain is now a free agent after leaving Sevilla this summer and may join Egyptian club Zamalek.

Ahead of the CAF Confederations Cup clash between Enyimba and Zamelek, the media coordinator for Zamalek Ahmed Shawky, has confirmed that the Egyptian club is in negotiations to sign Sergio Ramos.

The former Real Madrid and Spain captain is currently a free agent after leaving Sevilla this summer.

In an interview with ESPN, Shawky expressed interest in bringing the 2010 FIFA World Cup winner to Zamalek.

"Some agents and mediators offered the opportunity. Sergio Ramos is of course a great player who won everything with Real Madrid and Spain. He would be a huge player for any team in the Middle East or Africa," he stated.

However, Shawky also acknowledged the challenges in securing Ramos' signature.

"There is nothing concrete so far, and the player is highly valued financially (Ramos' salary demands). We also have to remember that Zamalek has recently signed other center-backs," he added.

Despite the potential financial hurdles, Shawky believes that signing Ramos would be a significant boost for both Zamalek and Egyptian football.

"It would be a huge boost for Egyptian football, more prestige for Zamalek and the league," he said.

Enyimba and Zamalek are set to face each other in the Confederation Cup group stage on December 8th, 2024.

The People's Elephant has yet to win the Confederation Cup trophy, while Zamalek is recognised as one of the most successful teams in the tournament's history as they are the defending champions.
