Emerging Stars head coach Ken Odhiambo expressed a sense of divine gratitude following his team’s 2-0 defeat to Comoros in the 2024 COSAFA Cup Group B match this past Sunday.
Despite the loss, Odhiambo’s reference to a higher power highlighted his relief and reflective outlook in the face of a challenging game.
The match proved to be an uphill battle for Kenya from the early minutes, particularly after defender Paul Ochuoga was sent off in the 12th minute for a second bookable offense.

Emerging Stars: Five Kenyan talents to watch at COSAFA Cup 2024
Five Kenyan talents poised to impact COSAFA Cup 2024, showcasing skills from goal-scoring to defensive prowess in South Africa.
This early red card forced the Emerging Stars to play with ten men for the majority of the game, putting them at a significant disadvantage.
In a post-match interview, Odhiambo didn’t shy away from addressing the difficulties his team faced.
"We shot ourselves in the foot today by allowing Comoros into the game. First, it was a silly penalty, then a silly red card, but this is football and we learn from our mistakes. I can't blame the player because he is still young and learning," he explained.

Harambee Stars lose to Comoros in COSAFA Cup after devastating red card
Kenya struggled against Comoros missing key chances in a crucial COSAFA Cup Group B encounter.
The consequences of the penalty and the red card were indeed severe, but Odhiambo remained philosophical about the outcome.
"Things went wrong when we conceded the penalty. I think if we had only received a red card, it might have been different. A penalty and a red card together is a double tragedy," he added.
Despite these adversities, Kenya did have opportunities to narrow the scoreline.
"However, after that, we tried to stay calm. In the last seven minutes of the first half, we had two clear chances that we could not capitalize on. In the second half, we were trying to chase the game but we looked disjointed. Comoros also had two or three clear chances, but I thank God it could have been worse," Odhiambo noted.
Looking ahead, the stakes are high for the Emerging Stars as they prepare to face Zimbabwe in their final group match.
