Emile Smith Rowe, who could not get a single Premier League start last season, has spoken out regarding his future with Arsenal.

The Hales End academy product struggled to get into the first team last season after going on a lengthy injury that ruled him out for almost half of the season.

The 22-year-old needed surgery after tearing his groin in Arsenal's 3-1 loss to Manchester United in September of last year.

Despite struggling last season, Emile Smith Rowe, who only played a total of 195 minutes for Arsenal last season, has promised to "fight for my place and get back in the team."

Smith Rowe has no plans to leave Arsenal

Smith Rowe has spoken about his future at Arsenal and said he has no plans to leave the Emirates anytime soon.

According to the Times as reported by the Mirror, Smith Rowe said, "I just want to be on the pitch. This was the hardest season of my career. It was tough, but we were in a title race and I understand the manager isn't going to change the team if we're winning every game.

"I just tried to stay positive and train as well as I could. The other players and Mikel were great with me, kept me feeling connected. But it was tough, a long season. I won't lie.

"Arsenal are my club and I'm not going to give up until [Arteta] says he doesn't want me," he added. "But that's not the case. He wants me as part of the team and I want to fight for my place and get back in the team."

Arteta speaks on Smith Rowe’s playing time

Speaking last month, Arteta acknowledged that he feels guilty about "three or four" underutilised Arsenal players, including Smith Rowe, not receiving enough playing time.

According to Arteta, "I have to be critical of myself. My job is to get the best out of 24 players we have available and I haven't been able to do that.

"There are three or four I would say that still have huge potential but for different reasons, they haven't been able to do that [this season]. Whether it's injuries or game time or whether it's because I haven't had the opportunity or I have decided not to play them enough."

The Arsenal youngster has only three years left on his present deal and will be staying at the club.

Smith Rowe hopes to perform at his peak at this summer's Euro U21 championships, which get underway on June 22.
