Three African countries will play in the FIFAWWC round of 16 after Morocco joined Nigeria Super Falcons and South Africa.
An anxious and emotional video of the Moroccan Ladies waiting to find out if they made it through to the FIFAWWC round of 16 has appeared on social media.
Morocco made history after a hard-fought 1-0 win against Colombia in their final game in the group stage on Thursday.
The Atlas Lionesses broke several records as they made it successfully out of Group H alongside Colombia.
Morocco’s path to the knockout stage
The North African started their campaign on a shaky note following a baptism of fire against group favourites Germany.
An Alexandra Popp-inspired Germany produced a remarkable display to put six goals past the Lionesses in their first-ever FIFAWWC game.
Down but not out, the Atlas Lionesses picked themselves up to revive their campaign with a well-deserved win over South Korea in their second game.
With their fate back in their hands, Morocco went into the game against Colombia needing all three points and a favour from South Korea.
The Video
In the video making the rounds as shared by popular journalist, Debola, the Moroccans are seen praying and waiting to find out if they had made it through.
Moments later, they received news that Germany had failed to beat Korea which meant they were indeed through.
The Atlas Lionesses broke out in tears of joy as they jumped and celebrated in what is a remarkable emotional scene.
Morocco vs Cololmbia
As reported by Pulse Sports, the Lionesses held it together to get the business done against the hitherto unbeaten South Americans.
Morocco defeated the Colombian 1-0 before facing an anxious moment after their game as the other group match between Germany and Korea was ongoing.
