Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat is looking at the possibility of calling up more players ahead of Tuesday’s match against Namibia after injuries to two key defenders on Friday.
Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat has hinted at the possibility of calling up more players ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away to Namibia on Tuesday.
Firat’s men put in a poor display on Friday when they drew 0-0 with Zimbabwe but the game also came at a huge cost as defenders Alphonce Omija and Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma went off injured.
It is a setback that has left Firat sweating over their fitness before his side face the Brave Warriors in South Africa in their second qualifying game.
“I have always injured players and you see now in the beginning, Alphonce gets injured so I don’t know the exact situation, Marcelo could not finish the game because of injury so we end this point very unlucky,” said Firat.
“In the end, we will have to trust other players but let us see what the medical department says, if we have to invite again some players. It will really be bad for us if we lose more than half of the team.”
Firat will be hoping that he does not have to do with more injuries with captain Michael Olunga and Johnstone Omurwa among those already missing due to injuries.
Harambee Stars must get it right against Namibia to avoid their qualification journey ending as soon as it started after securing one point against Zimbabwe, who many thought they would beat, following their 3-1 victory over then in March.
Kenya and Zimbabwe have one point each while Cameroon and Namibia will be hoping to take advantage when they face each other on Saturday evening.
